The value of Polite words

Being polite in today's society is a must. Common phrases or questions like "How are you?" are used all over the world to communicate politeness. Many people think these words are "empty" or "meaningless", but I think polite words are much more than that and reflect how things get done in a society. People use these words to show their relationship with the other person or to achieve their goals.

A commonplace to use polite speech is an educational place like college or high school. Those polite phrases are used in hallways, classrooms, etc, but they really just serve one purpose. When 2 friends walk by each other the hallway and say "what's up" to each other, that is a way for them to show the other person they treat each other like friends. Or when a teacher asks a student "how are you" in the classroom and the student asks her back, a respectful relationship is shown, where the student respects the teacher. These examples can be observed commonly in grocery stores, homes, gyms, everywhere. Polite speeches in these cases helped people to establish or reinforce relationships between each other.

Another use of polite speech is to achieve a goal. For example, when a kid asks for candies and his mom says no. He will add "Please" to sound polite and convince his mom to let him reach his goal. During a business negotiation, people will generally talk very politely to each other to ensure that their goal is achieved. Polite speech in these cases makes a person's demands more gentle, and sound like they are almost begging for it.

Overall, the use of polite speech makes a person become socially acceptable. Polite speeches are essential to our society because it helps people bond and reach their goals,
